It isn't a dragon story, but I was listening to a song and this spilled out, so I thought I would put it here. I hope you like it.

The girl stood alone on the bridge. She could hear the river moving below her, swollen with winter's excess. It filled the night with a savage roaring as it churned and twisted over itself. She tried to listen for footsteps in the dark but the sound of the water drowned all else out.

She hugged herself against the cold and wondered how long she had been standing there listening to the water pass by. To her it felt like a lifetime. She didn't understand how she had gotten to this place, how she had come to be so alone in the darkness. It seemed as though the rest of the world had stopped. There was no one left but her.

She had an urge to scream, to yell, to make someone look at her. She wanted someone to hold out a hand and show her how to get home. She couldn't find the words she needed to say. She didn't know whom she could ask. She felt so confused and scared and alone.

She knew she had to move. She couldn't stand there by herself forever. She knew there was only one way for her to go. She stepped up to the bridge's edge. There was no one to stop her from doing what she needed to do. She slipped as she tried to step onto the rail. A hand reached out of the darkness to steady her. She caught her breath and looked to Him, hoping He would tell her she could come back down. He shook His head quietly and she turned back to face the open sky.

She held her arms out beside her and felt the warmth of His hand on her back. She closed her eyes, her fear now gone, replaced by a peaceful glow that filled her completely. He pushed against her. She fell silently into the night.

She felt her wings spread out behind her and catch the wind as she fell. She smiled as she felt their power and strength. She skimmed the top of the churning water then used her wings to pull herself back up. She twisted and turned and danced slowly through the sky. She saw Him motion to her and she flew back to His arms. She nuzzled against His neck and He wrapped Himself around her. Tears spilt from her eyes and caressed her cheeks. He kissed them away.

'I thought I was alone,' she whispered.

He smiled at her softly. 'You never are.'
